Beach Handball Tournament To Make History in Posadas

Beach handball will make history in Argentina when Costa Sur holds the first handball tournament in the Northeast. Running from 4-6 February, the iconic resort will host a stage of the Arenas 1000 national circuit. Champions will then earn a place in the national finals in Puerto Madryn, Chabut.

This is the first beach handball tournament approved by the Argentine Handball Confederation (CAH) in the region. The event signals a bright future for the sport. Its organizers played a big role in bringing it to Costa Sur resort, where people come from around the world to enjoy sparkling blue lagoons and its luxurious spa.

Organizers include the Federación Misionera de Handball, the Municipality of Posadas, and the Ministry of Sport. Alejandro Russel, president of Posadas Sporting Club is the official in charge of the tournament. He spent the last 6 years working with the federation to make it happen.

Speaking to El Deportivo, he had this to say about the event:

“It will be the first time that an official beach handball tournament is held in the NEA. The main objective is to promote this discipline. We already have confirmations of teams from Formosa, Oberá and Posadas.”

The luxury facilities aren’t the only things that make Costa Sur an ideal venue. In addition to the tournament, the resort will host a training clinic for referees on the 3rd of February.

“The doors are open to physical education teachers, players, and athletes in general who want to join the activity,” said Alejandro Russel.

This bodes well for future beach handball tournaments in the region. The event opens up opportunities for locals to participate, both as players and supporters. As the sport grows in Posadas, its national popularity could reach the heights of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games once again.
