In Mar del Plata, Argentina, a new recreation facility, Emder Sports Beach, has been opened to the public. The city’s mayor, Guillermo Montenegro, and other leaders in the sports community were present at the opening ceremony in December 2021.
From now through March 1 2022, there will be events from 8 am to 8 pm every day, including exhibitions, clinics, tournaments, and training sessions. Asabal, the Atlantic Association of Handball, will lead beach handball training and development sessions for athletes and members of the public.
Mar del Plata has hosted beach handball tournaments in the past, including the official launch of the Argentine Beach Handball Circuit in 2020, and the regional beach handball circuit for Buenos Aires province. Emder Sports Beach will give the city the chance to continue holding events like this in the future. The Argentine Beach Handball Circuit has been incredibly successful, and hosting further tournaments associated with it would be excellent opportunity to bring sports tourism into the city.
With the popularity of beach handball growing quickly in Argentina, facilities like this one mean even more people will have the chance to get involved, either as competitive or recreational players, or as spectators.
When there are not scheduled events in session, members of the general public can use Emder Sports Beach free of charge.
