Alejandro Chavez is a leader both the Mexico Beach Handball National Team on and off the sand. He started playing Beach Handball in 2017 back when in Mexico Beach handball was not as established as it is today. Mexico focused on indoor handball originally, but gradually implemented beach handball over time and have become a real contender in The North America and the Caribbean Handball Confederation (NACHC).
Colima, where Chavez lives, is located near the cost of Mexico giving them the opportunity to practice regularly to improve the program’s competitiveness. This has also lead to the organization of more beach handball events and tournaments in Mexico. Colima is now home to a breeding ground of current and future Mexico national team players.
Chavez had the opportunity to travel abroad and learn from different beach handball coaches like Antonio Guerra and Marcio Magliano in Argentina and Brazil. The knowledge acquired allowed Alejandro the opportunity to further expedite the advancement of beach handball in Mexico.
Alejandros objectives for the near future is to go to Greece and play against the best players in the world. Long term, Chavez is motivated by beach handball’s potential to be an Olympic sport in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
