A Conclusive Review of the Trelew Handball Tournament

The recently concluded Trelew Beach Handball had many talking points. The points are the basis of valuable insights handball stakeholders will use in preparing for the Copa Argentina in Mid-February and the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

The province of Trelew, particularly the Laguna Cacique Chiquichano Nature Reserve, was treated to a weekend of fun-filled beach handball. The organizers: Municipality of Trelew and the Vale Handball Association, summed the tournament as monumental.

In its light, the tournament improved the competitive nature of beach handball. Independentie clinched the minor men’s title, Grilli won the top spot in the men’s level, and Cumehue attained first place in the women’s branch. The competitiveness of the tournament to churn the winners cemented beach handball as a distinct discipline. Beach handball has been aiming to break off from its big brother, the conventional handball for a long time.

Despite the success, there were bottlenecks to the event. The pandemic is to blame for some of the complications that occurred. Sandoval, one of the organizers, said, “We knew that the team presentation was going to be complicated. Due to the health situation, there are many players who are isolated. This is the third date that the game is held in the province of Chubut. The game has already been played in Madryn, another in Playa Unión, and this one that was the last one today.” The event organizers did their best to enforce the health protocols, a priority in Trelew.

Spectators had a break from the nail-biting final by touring River Chubut, The Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio, and another notable museum. Trelew’s dedication to culture is enthralling. The Welsh tea time is one of the many attractions that make you want to stay a little longer in Trelew.

The Municipality of Trelew did a lot to establish the province as a beach handball hub. Indeed, they will organize subsequent events, although the focus shifts to Puerto Madryn (68kilometres from Trelew) for the Copa Argentina.
